ABIA TEACHERS’ RECRUITMENT: OVER 7,280 CANDIDATES CROSS CBT BENCHMARK AS ORAL INTERVIEW RESULTS FOR BATCH TWO NEAR COMPLETION AS GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES ACCELERATED BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME
The Abia State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen its education sector as the compilation of results for the second batch of candidates in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise reaches an advanced stage, signaling imminent communication to successful applicants.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Providing an update on the recruitment process, the Information boss revealed that the result of the oral interview for batch two candidates, who were shortlisted following the recently conducted Computer-Based Test (CBT) is currently being compiled. He assured that all successful candidates would be duly notified in due course, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency and merit-based selection.
Highlighting the scale and competitiveness of the exercise, Prince Kanu stated, “Over 7,280 candidates scored above 40% in the CBT test. And in line with the standards of the transparent process and fairness of the recruitment process in the state, everybody will be given a fair chance based on their performance,“ underscoring the administration’s resolve to uphold fairness and equal opportunity throughout the recruitment process.
In a related development, the Commissioner further disclosed that the Abia State Government has officially commenced the Abia State Accelerated Basic Education Programme. The initiative is designed to fast-track learning outcomes by compressing the conventional six-year primary school curriculum into a three-year intensive programme, thereby expanding access to foundational education and addressing gaps in basic literacy and numeracy across the state.
The dual progress in both teacher recruitment and educational reform reflects the broader agenda of the Abia State Government to reposition the education sector as a cornerstone of sustainable development, equipping learners with essential skills while ensuring that qualified and competent teachers are deployed across schools in t
he state.
