ABIA’S SOCIAL ELITE GATHER AS ABA SPORTS CLUB 1926 HONOURS MAZI ALICHE OTTI WITH PRESTIGIOUS GOLD AWARD AT A GRAND 2025 AWARDS NIGHT & INDUCTION CEREMONY

The historic halls of the Aba Sports Club 1926 came alive last night, Friday, November 21, 2025, as the club hosted its highly anticipated 2025 Awards Night and Induction Ceremony, an event that drew the crème de la crème of Abia’s social, political, and business circles.

 

At the centre of the night’s celebrations was the recognition of Mazi Aliche Otti (Ikemba Aro), who received the club’s prestigious Gold Award, bestowed in honour of his exceptional contributions, unwavering loyalty, and steadfast dedication to the progress and development of the club.

 

The ceremony attracted an impressive assemblage of personalities, dignitaries, socialites, politicians, captains of industry, business leaders, and key influencers making it one of the most glamorous social gatherings in Aba this year.

 

In his stirring address, the 67th President of the club, Sir Chris Agbo, KJW, set the tone for the evening, declaring: “Tonight, we celebrate excellence, unity, and the enduring spirit that has sustained Aba Sports Club 1926 for nearly a century.

 

“As we welcome new members and honour our distinguished award recipients, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, progress, transparency, and collective growth.”

 

He highlighted the legacy of the club and its continued evolution since 1926, while commending the new inductees:

 

“To our new inductees, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome. You are joining a club with a rich history and a proud legacy of excellence dating back to 1926… We look forward to the fresh energy, ideas, and innovations you will bring.”

 

Sir Agbo further reflected on the club’s transformation under his leadership:

“Together, we have restored harmony, upgraded our facilities, strengthened our administration, and rekindled the vibrancy of our club… Long live Aba Sports Club 1926, and long live our unity and friendship.”

 

He paid special tribute to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, stating: “Therefore, permit me to most warmly appreciate His Excellency… for the installation of Solar Powered Street Lights on the roads surrounding the club premises, amending the Main Club Hall roof, asphalting the club premises and even making a promise to remodel the Main Club Hall to a befitting status.”

 

The president also extended heartfelt gratitude to the Management Committee, members, and guests for making the memorable night a reality.

 

The Gold Award recipient, Mazi Aliche Otti, was honoured for his outstanding commitment and significant contributions to the growth and progress of Aba Sports Club 1926.

 

The club also conferred its Diamond Award on Chief Chidi Ajaegbu, in recognition of his donation of land for the construction of the Club’s E-Library and his financial support towards its completion.

 

In addition, the elite CALIFORNIUM CATEGORY award was presented to the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for his exceptional support to the club.

 

Another notable honour, the Gold Award, was given to Chief Chinasa Ukaegbu (Checknasa) for his contributions.

 

The 2025 Awards Night and Induction Ceremony was not just about recognition, it was a celebration of culture, music, and creativity. Guests were treated to classic musical performances, spirited dance competitions, and a series of captivating displays that kept the night bubbling with excitement and elegance.

 

The event reaffirmed the Aba Sports Club 1926 as a symbol of excellence, unity, and community spirit, as it marches toward its centenary with renewed hope and purpose.

 

With its distinguished honorees, vibrant atmosphere, and powerful message of collective progress, the evening will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most iconic gatherings i n the club’s illustrious history.
