Adeleke Denies Deal With ADC, Rejects Claim of Alliance Behind Osun Victory
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed claims that his victory in the August 15 governorship election was aided by a political arrangement between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Accord.
Adeleke’s position comes in response to remarks by Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, who claimed that the party worked with Accord to help defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the closely contested election.
The governor, however, rejected the suggestion of any such political deal, distancing his administration and campaign from the alleged cooperation involving the opposition parties.
The August 15 election produced a closely fought contest, with Adeleke emerging victorious over Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, and Najeem Salaam, who contested the election on the platform of the ADC.
The development has sparked renewed political debate in Osun, particularly over the alliances, voting patterns and behind-the-scenes strategies that shaped the outcome of the election.
While Abdullahi’s comments have fueled speculation about possible opposition coordination against the APC, Adeleke’s denial places the focus back on his campaign’s independent efforts and the factors that ultimately secured his re-election.
The conflicting positions have also added another layer to the post-election political landscape in Osun, where the strength and future direction of the various opposition parties are expected to remain subjects of intense discussion.
