The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s defection to the Accord Party will not alter his electoral prospects.

The party accused Adeleke of abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its elected members for personal reasons.

The Eye Opener News reports that the party shared its reservation in a statement signed by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, on Wednesday in Osogbo.

The party said Adeleke’s departure from the  PDP, announced last week and formalised on Tuesday at the Government House in Osogbo, had been expected.

According to APC, “The governor’s decision to join a new party did not offer any advantage,” claiming that “residents had discovered that he has been using deceit and subterfuge to run his wobbling administration.”

APC stated that the defection did not amount to a genuine political realignment, adding that Adeleke had been rejected by other political parties before joining the Accord Party.

It queried, “If Adeleke’s administration and political approaches are such a reason of pride, would he have been shamefully rejected by those political parties he earlier begged to accept him?”

The party further described the Accord Party as lacking national influence, stating that it had no single governor or any significant recognition in the country.

Lawal said APC welcomed Adeleke’s move, arguing that it would make it easier for the party to defeat him at the forthcoming governorship election.
