Anambra Government Lifts Closure of Onitsha Main Market, Orders Full Resumption of Trading from Monday
The Anambra State Government has announced the expiration of the closure placed on the Onitsha Main Market, following the directive earlier issued by Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR.
In a press announcement dated February 1, 2026, the government disclosed that the closure order lapses this weekend, paving the way for full resumption of commercial activities in the market.
Consequently, all traders operating in the Onitsha Main Market have been directed to reopen and resume business as usual from Monday, February 2, 2026. The state government emphasized that there is no longer any form of sit-at-home on Mondays in Anambra State.
The government further assured Ndi Anambra and residents of the state of adequate security, urging members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities or security concerns through the designated emergency line, 5111.
Additionally, civil servants and teachers across the state were reminded that the pro rata salary system remains in force, meaning any absence from work on Mondays will attract no pay.
Parents and guardians were also cautioned to ensure that their children attend school on Mondays, as failure to do so may result in sanctions.

The directive forms part of the Soludo administration’s continued efforts to restore normalcy, boost economic activities, and reinforce law and order across Anambra State.
