APC Dissolves Enugu State Working Committee Ahead of Governor Peter Mbah’s Defection, Appoints 7-Member Caretaker Team
In what appears to be a major political realignment in the South East, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially dissolved the Enugu State Working Committee of the party, signaling a fresh beginning ahead of the much-anticipated defection of Governor Peter Mbah to the ruling party.
It was gathered that the decision was taken during the 179th meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to reliable reports, the dissolution comes barely two days after the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet over alleged certificate forgery.
Nnaji, who is a known ally of Barr. Ugo Agballah, the now former Enugu APC Chairman, is said to have been instrumental in shaping the previous leadership structure of the party in the state.
Following the NWC’s resolution, the Agballah-led State Working Committee was dissolved with immediate effect, paving the way for a new seven-member Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the APC in Enugu State.
In its place, former state chairman Barr. Ben Nwoye has been appointed as the new helmsman, while former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh, will serve as the Secretary of the caretaker committee.
The resolution, signed by Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, stated:
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its 179th meeting at the Party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, on Thursday, 9th October, 2025, presided over by the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
“At the conclusion of the meeting, the following resolutions were reached:
‘Dissolution of Enugu State Executive Committee and Appointment of Caretaker Committee.
“The NWC approved the dissolution of the APC Enugu State Executive Committee with immediate effect, following a comprehensive review of the state of the Party in Enugu State.
“Consequently, a seven (7)-member Caretaker Committee has been constituted to oversee the affairs of the Party in the State. The Committee, which will be inaugurated on Friday, 10th October, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, is composed as follows:
Dr. Ben Nwoye – Chairman
H.E. Mrs. Fidelia Njoeze – Member
Comrade Peter Chime – Member
Dr. (Mrs.) Oby Ajih – Member
Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor – Member
Engr. Emma Ekeh – Member
Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh – Secretary.”
Meanwhile, reports from Enugu indicate that Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the APC is imminent, following several high-level consultations between the governor and top members of the party’s national leadership.
Political observers note that both Ugo Agballah and Uche Nnaji had previously vowed that Governor Mbah would not join the APC, citing internal disagreements within the Enugu State chapter.
However, founding members of the party, including Ben Nwoye and Osita Okechukwu, have maintained that the APC is ready to welcome the governor into its fold.
With these latest developments, it has become increasingly clear that Governor Mbah’s defection is only a matter of days, a move that could significantly alter the political landscape of Enugu State and strengthen the APC
’s influence in the South East region.
