Children’s Day 2026: Aba South Mayor, Hon. Anyanwu Reaffirms Commitment to Child Welfare, Describes Children as Indeed The Future
The Executive Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Anyanwu, has extended warm felicitations to children across Aba South and beyond as the world marks the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, describing children as the pride, joy, and future of society.
Speaking ahead of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration scheduled to hold at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, the Mayor emphasized the critical role children play in shaping the future of families, communities, and the nation at large.
Hon. Anyanwu noted that every child deserves proper care, guidance, quality education, and emotional support to grow into a responsible and productive citizen. He called on parents, guardians, teachers, and stakeholders to remain committed to nurturing children with strong moral values and educational opportunities that would prepare them for leadership responsibilities in the future.
The Mayor also used the occasion to raise concerns over increasing cases of child abuse, exploitation, and neglect, warning that such acts must not be tolerated in society. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Aba South administration to protecting the rights and welfare of children in line with the Child Rights Act and relevant state policies.
According to him, his administration will continue to collaborate with schools, traditional institutions, security agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure the safety and protection of children both at home and in public spaces. He further urged residents to promptly report cases of child abuse and neglect to the appropriate authorities.
Hon. Anyanwu highlighted ongoing efforts by the Aba South Local Government to improve access to quality education, healthcare services, and recreational facilities for children within the council area. He stated that the initiatives align with the developmental vision of the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, particularly in advancing educational reforms and child-centered policies across the state.
The Mayor assured that more child-focused empowerment and developmental programmes would soon be introduced to provide young people with opportunities to thrive and achieve their dreams.
He further wished children in Aba South and across the world a peaceful, memorable, and fun-filled Children’s Day celebration, praying for God’s protection, guidance, and wisdom upon them as future leaders of society.
