Darlington Nwokocha Picks Abia Central Senatorial Form as Labour Party Leadership Celebrates Governor Alex Otti’s Inclusive Governance and Political Reforms
The National Working Committee of the Labour Party on Friday, May 8, 2026, applauded the Executive Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for what it described as a practical demonstration of the party’s ideals through inclusive governance, transparent leadership, and people-oriented policies.
The commendation came during a high-level meeting held at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where members of the party’s National Working Committee presented Governor Otti with the Labour Party governorship nomination form free of charge ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The event, which drew key stakeholders and party leaders from across the country, also witnessed a major political moment as former interim National Secretary of the party, Darlington Nwokocha, officially picked up the Labour Party nomination form to contest for the Abia Central Senatorial seat.
Nwokocha’s decision to obtain the senatorial form sparked excitement among party faithful, with many describing it as a strategic move that would further strengthen the Labour Party’s political structure in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the gathering, Labour Party National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, praised Governor Otti for redefining governance and projecting the true image of the Labour Party through fairness, social justice, and equal opportunities for all citizens irrespective of political affiliation.
The party leadership noted that Governor Otti’s style of governance had continued to attract admiration beyond party lines, especially due to his refusal to embrace divisive politics and winner-takes-all leadership.
The National Working Committee further declared that the decision to hand over the governorship nomination form to Governor Otti at no cost was a collective endorsement of his performance and leadership capacity, adding that the party remained proud of the transformation currently taking place in Abia State under his administration.
Also speaking at the event, Labour Party National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, described Governor Otti as the symbol of the party’s rebirth and political stability, noting that his achievements had restored public confidence in the Labour Party across Nigeria.
Responding, Governor Otti expressed appreciation to the National Working Committee for the gesture and commended the party leadership for successfully navigating through internal crises and legal battles that once threatened the stability of the Labour Party.
The Governor maintained that the party had survived difficult moments and was now positioned for growth, expansion, and stronger political relevance nationwide.
Attention however shifted strongly to Senator Darlington Nwokocha as he formally picked the nomination form for the Abia Central Senatorial Zone, signaling his readiness to return to active legislative politics under the Labour Party platform.
Nwokocha used the occasion to commend Governor Otti’s leadership style, describing him as a political reformer whose approach to governance and party administration had introduced a new culture of discipline, unity, and peaceful political engagement.
He further recalled the Governor’s role during the Labour Party primaries in 2022, noting that Otti’s intervention at the time helped ensure orderliness, transparency, and internal cohesion within the party.
The meeting was attended by members of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives led by Rep. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, alongside National Organizing Secretary, Oluchi Opara; National Women Leader, Hilda Dokubo; National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, and members of the Abia
State Executive Council.
