Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has declared that the era of describing Nigeria as the “most corrupt country” in the world is over, asserting that the nation’s global image is steadily improving under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during her official visit to Gombe State, where she commissioned several health projects including the newly completed Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kumo, Sen. Tinubu called on Nigerians to desist from demeaning their country’s reputation. She maintained that the world’s perception of Nigeria has shifted positively, reflecting renewed hope and confidence in the nation’s leadership and potential.

“Gone are the days when they say Nigeria is the most corrupt country. You won’t hear that again. When I travel abroad and they hear you’re from Nigeria, everyone is interested. Nigeria is now the next destination,” she said.

The First Lady’s remarks came as she paid homage to the Emir of Akko, reaffirming her belief that patriotism and positive national narratives are essential ingredients in nation-building. She praised Gombe’s scenic beauty, describing the state’s landscape as “beautiful and comparable to the English countryside,” while urging citizens to celebrate Nigeria’s natural endowments and cultural heritage.

Mrs. Tinubu linked her message of renewed patriotism to the administration’s ongoing reforms in security, education, health, and grassroots empowerment, noting that traditional and religious leaders play vital roles in shaping citizens’ values and attitudes.

“I’m 65 years old now, and I pray to live long. I’m working so hard so that when my husband finishes his tenure, I too can walk around safely. That is what drives me,” she said.

The First Lady appealed to Nigerians to remain hopeful, united, and supportive of government initiatives aimed at rebuilding the nation’s moral fabric, restoring its dignity, and strengthening its standing within the global community.

Her visit to Gombe underscores the administration’s focus on fostering development across all regions while promoting messages of unity, optimism, and a renewed sense of national identity.
