Fresh Hope as Nollywood Legend “Ogogo” Enters Operating Theatre for Stage Four Cancer Treatment
A wave of concern, prayers and renewed hope has swept across the Nigerian entertainment industry following reports that veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has been taken into the operating theatre as he continues his battle against stage four cancer.
The latest update was shared on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, by Nigerian actress Toyosi Adesanya, who revealed that the veteran actor had been admitted for a medical procedure after efforts were intensified to secure specialised treatment for his condition.
Ogogo, one of the most recognisable and respected figures in the Yoruba movie industry, has been receiving medical attention following the discovery of cancer, a development that has drawn widespread concern from colleagues, fans and other well-wishers.
The actor’s family had earlier raised alarm over his health after confirming that he had been diagnosed with cancer. One of his daughters, Kira, disclosed that the family only discovered the illness about three weeks ago and that the disease had affected his abdomen.
The revelation deepened public concern over the condition of the veteran actor, particularly after the family disclosed that some hospitals had informed them that chemotherapy was no longer an option. This reportedly forced the family to explore alternative forms of treatment and seek further medical advice from specialists.
As the family searched for a way forward, support began to come from different quarters. Solomon Adeola, the senator representing Ogun West and popularly known as Senator Yayi, was said to have offered financial assistance towards Ogogo’s medical expenses. The intervention, however, went beyond financial support.
According to Adesanya, Adeola personally took further steps by connecting the actor’s family with leading cancer specialists, opening a new chapter of hope in the battle to save the Nollywood icon.
The development eventually led to Ogogo’s admission for the medical procedure, with Adesanya announcing that the actor had been moved into the operating theatre.
“He’s now in operating theatre.
“Senator Yayi personally reached out to top cancer specialists, and we are grateful to learn that Ogogo has now been admitted to the operating theatre for treatment.
“We pray for a successful procedure, complete recovery, renewed strength and many more years of good health for our beloved Nollywood legend.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has prayed, offered suggestions, shared the appeal and shown concern for Ogogo. May God bless you all. Ogogo, we are standing with you. You will come out stronger”, she said.
The announcement has triggered fresh prayers and messages of solidarity for the veteran actor, whose decades-long career has made him a household name and a towering figure in Nollywood.
For now, the attention of fans, colleagues and loved ones remains fixed on the outcome of the procedure, with many hoping that the operation will mark a major turning point in Ogogo’s fight against the disease.
As the Nollywood legend undergoes treatment, the entertainment community and his admirers across Nigeria continue to rally around him with one shared hope that Ogogo will emerge from the operating theatre stronger and begin a journey towards recovery.
