Gov. Alex Otti Intensifies Recovery of Illegally Acquired Government Assets, Vows to Protect Abia Property
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has revealed that his administration has intensified efforts towards recovering assets and properties belonging to the state government which were illegally acquired by individuals, as part of broader reforms aimed at restoring accountability and protecting public wealth in the state.
Governor Otti made the disclosure on Friday during the May edition of the monthly media parley, tagged “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians,” where he reviewed key achievements recorded by his administration as it marks three years in office.
Speaking during the interaction, the Governor maintained that his administration would not relent in reclaiming government-owned assets allegedly taken over unlawfully by private individuals, stressing that public property must be protected for the benefit of all Abians.
He noted that although some affected individuals had approached the courts to challenge government actions, the state government remained resolute and fully prepared to pursue legal means in reclaiming what rightfully belongs to the people of Abia State.
“We have also recovered a lot of stolen assets, especially from people who acquired them illegally. Some of them have challenged us in courts and we have met them there.
“This government is very, very strict about government property,” he said.
Governor Otti further explained that his administration had introduced strict measures aimed at preventing future illegal acquisition and occupation of government assets across the state.
According to the Governor, the Abia State Government has now criminalised the unauthorised acquisition and occupation of government property while also strengthening legal frameworks and institutional mechanisms to ensure the recovery and protection of state-owned assets.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, emphasizing that government assets must be preserved and utilized for the collective development of the state rather than for private interests.
The latest disclosure comes amid ongoing reforms by the Otti-led administration aimed at repositioning Abia State through fiscal discipline, institutional reforms and enforcement of due process in governance.
