ISRAELI RESEARCHERS UNVEIL GROUNDBREAKING HODGKIN LYMPHOMA THERAPY AT GLOBAL CANCER SUMMIT, RECORDING UNPRECEDENTED 100% SURVIVAL RATE
A major medical breakthrough has emerged from ISRAEL at the world’s largest blood cancer conference, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) meeting currently underway in the United States. Researchers are presenting a pioneering lymphoma treatment that has delivered an extraordinary 100% survival rate, marking what experts describe as one of the most promising advances in modern oncology.
The large-scale Israeli study conducted across 15 medical centers nationwide, investigated a novel therapeutic strategy for advanced-stage Hodgkin lymphoma. The results have stunned even seasoned specialists, reshaping global perceptions of what is possible in the treatment of this aggressive cancer.
The innovative therapy combines cutting-edge chemotherapy with precision-targeted biological treatment. The outcome has been exceptional: 95% of patients achieved a complete response, while 83% displayed near-total disappearance of the disease after only two treatment cycles. These results not only match but in some cases surpass the benchmarks set by leading international clinical trials.
Researchers further reported a dramatic reduction in the need for radiation therapy, with just 4% of patients requiring additional radiation, a sharp decline compared to historical treatment patterns. Side effects remained generally manageable throughout the trial, and remarkably, the one-year survival rate stood at 100%. The findings firmly position ISRAEL at the forefront of global lymphoma research and underscore the transformative impact of unified medical collaboration across public health institutions.
Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, represents approximately 10% of all lymphoma cases and is particularly prevalent among young adults. Patients often present with swollen lymph nodes and may experience “B symptoms” such as persistent fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss. Diagnosis typically involves a biopsy of an affected lymph node and staging through PET-CT imaging. Treatment is individualized according to disease stage, commonly combining chemotherapy, biological therapies, and in some cases radiation. The disease is considered highly curable, with overall cure rates exceeding 85%, and relapse treatments have also advanced significantly.
The groundbreaking study was co-led by Dr. Zvi Forgas, senior physician at the Hematology Institute of Soroka Medical Center, and Dr. Tzofia Levy, senior physician in the Hematology Division at Rambam Health Care Campus, who is also presenting the findings at the ASH conference.
According to Dr. Levy, “The new treatment protocol represents a true revolution in Hodgkin lymphoma care. It enables patients to achieve full disease control and in some cases, even a cure in just nine weeks. In most patients, signs of the cancer disappeared early in the process, and by the end of treatment, there was little to no evidence of disease.”
The breakthrough now stands as a beacon of hope for patients worldwide, offering a faster, more effective, and less toxic path to long-term remission and potentially, a cure.
