“It Gives Me Great Pleasure To Have Completed This Road” — Governor Alex Otti Says, Commissions 14 Strategic Road Projects Across Osisioma, Aba North and Aba South LGAs

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has commissioned 14 road projects across Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to urban renewal, improved infrastructure and economic expansion in the state.

The projects commissioned by the Governor across Aba include; 1.72km Aro Amano—Eke Aro Road, 1.7km Adaelu Road, 1.6km Geometric Road, 700m Afule Road, 1km Assemblies of God Church Road, and the 550m Kingdom Hall Street, all in Osisioma LGA

Others are; 738m Nwogu Ajagba Street, 955m Nwala Street, Elizabeth Avenue, and the 1.5km Nigerian Brewery Ring Road, all in Aba North LGA.

The rest are; 1.1km Sacred Heart Street, 799m Etche Road, 1.1km Mosque Road, and 960m Crystal Park Road all in Aba South LGA

The commissioning exercises, which took place on Tuesday May 26, 2026, formed part of activities marking Governor Alex Otti’s third year anniversary in office and attracted government officials, residents, business owners and community stakeholders who gathered to witness the inauguration of the projects.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies held across different parts of Aba, Governor Otti described the projects as critical interventions designed to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and stimulate economic activities within the city and its environs.

At the commissioning of Geometric Road in Osisioma, Governor Otti recalled the deplorable condition of the road before the intervention of his administration and expressed satisfaction with the remarkable transformation that has taken place.

“It gives me great pleasure to have completed this road. I was a witness to how bad it was.

“If you look to my right and to my left, you will see industries springing up. Not too long ago, we went to commission Ultimum Beverages just down the road,” Governor Otti said.

The Governor noted that the reconstruction of strategic roads within industrial and commercial corridors remains a key component of his administration’s vision to reposition Aba as a thriving economic destination and attract more investments into the state.

At the commissioning of Afule Road, Governor Otti described the project as a strategic bypass expected to significantly reduce pressure on the ever-busy Aba–Owerri Road, thereby improving traffic flow and accessibility for motorists and businesses operating within the axis.

He commended the project team for completing the road within a record timeframe and praised the quality and standard of work delivered on the project.

“The quality of the road is above standard, lined with street lights and drainage. I therefore commission this road and declare it open for public use,” he said.

At Adaelu Road in Osisioma, Governor Otti also applauded officials of the Ministry of Works and the Direct Labour Agency for the speed, dedication and efficiency demonstrated in the execution and completion of the project.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Don Otumchere Oti, while providing details of the projects, disclosed that several of the roads commissioned were previously in very poor and nearly inaccessible conditions before the intervention of the present administration.

Speaking specifically on Geometric Road, Mr Oti stated that the 1.6-kilometre road had become almost impassable during rainy seasons before the state government commenced reconstruction works through the ministry’s direct labour arrangement.

“Originally, in the rainy season, this road was completely impassable. And you (Gov Otti), directed that we should go and reconstruct the road.

“Today, we have achieved the road. This road now is in a perfect condition, reconstructed with asphalt, concrete and stone base.

“We’ve also provided street lights and road markings and the road is very good and safe for public use,” he disclosed.

On Adaelu Road, the Commissioner explained that the 1.7-kilometre stretch had suffered years of neglect and deterioration before Governor Otti directed immediate intervention on the road.

“This road was originally in a very deplorable state and you directed us to go and fix it. Immediately, I deployed our direct labour team to this road and today, the road is fixed,” Engr. Oti stated.

He further revealed that the rehabilitation works carried out on the road included the repair of failed sections, asphalt overlay works, installation of street lights and road markings aimed at improving safety and durability.

The commissioning of the 14 road projects further highlights the ongoing infrastructural transformation taking place across Aba under the administration of Governor Alex Otti, as residents continue to witness improved road networks, enhanced mobility and renewed eco nomic activities within the commercial city.
