Kenneth Okonkwo: Peter Obi’s ₦8bn Defamation Suit Against Kenneth Okonkwo Advances as Court Papers Are Served
The ₦8 billion defamation lawsuit filed by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has recorded a significant development following the successful service of court documents on the defendant through substituted means.
The latest move comes after the High Court in Onitsha granted an application permitting substituted service, paving the way for Obi’s legal team to formally notify Okonkwo of the legal proceedings.
In compliance with the court’s directive, the originating court processes were pasted at Okonkwo’s last known residential address in Nsukka, Enugu State. Photographic evidence of the service was also obtained to confirm that the court’s order had been duly executed.
The development follows Okonkwo’s earlier claim that he had not been served with any court documents in connection with the defamation suit. With the court-approved substituted service now completed and documented, the legal proceedings are expected to move to the next stage.
The case will now continue before the court, where both parties are expected to present their respective arguments as the judiciary considers the merits of the ₦8 billion defamatio
n claim.
