Labour Party Disowns Arabambi, Denies Tinubu Endorsement, Reaffirms Opposition Stance and Internal Authority Ahead of 2027
The Labour Party has firmly distanced itself from claims made by Abayomi Arabambi alleging that the party has endorsed Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, describing the assertion as entirely false, misleading, and without any official backing.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the Sokoto State Chairman of the Party and Chairman of the Northern Labour Party Chairmen Forum, Abubakar Yawale, the party made it clear that Arabambi lacks the authority to speak on its behalf, emphasizing that he is no longer a member of the party.
“Arabambi is an expelled member and has no authority whatsoever to speak for or on behalf of the Labour Party. His comments are personal, misleading, and irrelevant,” the statement said.
The party unequivocally rejected any suggestion that it has taken a position in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid, stressing that no such decision has been made at any level of its leadership structure.
“The Labour Party has not taken any decision to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition. Such a claim is false, unfounded, and should be completely disregarded,” it added.
Reinforcing its political posture, the party reiterated its commitment to maintaining a strong opposition role, positioning itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians amid ongoing national political discourse.
“The Party remains a vibrant opposition force, focused on providing credible leadership and an alternative vision for Nigeria,” the statement noted.
Addressing the political trajectory of its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the party acknowledged his current alignment while maintaining a tone of respect for his political choices.
“While Peter Obi remains a respected figure, he is currently aligned with the African Democratic Congress and has every constitutional right to pursue his political ambitions on any platform. We wish him well,” the statement said.

“Labour Party is not short of capable leaders. The Party has numerous competent and credible aspirants ready to contest for the presidency under its platform,” it stated.
Furthermore, the party reaffirmed the legitimacy of its current leadership under Nenadi Esther Usman, emphasizing that only constitutionally recognized organs of the party possess the authority to make binding decisions.
“Party leadership remains duly constituted… and only the recognized organs of the Party can make binding decisions,” the statement added.
In conclusion, the party called on the public and political stakeholders to disregard Arabambi’s remarks, describing them as baseless and self-serving, while reaffirming its unity and focus.
