Lionel Richie Hospitalised After Falling Ill Following St. Louis Concert
…as Music Legend Music Collapses On Stage, In Critical Condition
Music legend and celebrated American singer Lionel Richie has reportedly been hospitalised in St. Louis, Missouri, after falling ill shortly after performing at The Muny in Forest Park on Saturday night.
The 77-year-old music icon was taken to a hospital following the concert as a precautionary measure after reportedly showing signs of discomfort during the latter part of his performance.
According to reports by TMZ, Richie remained hospitalised as of Monday afternoon and was expected to be discharged on Tuesday. Sources familiar with the situation said the singer sought medical attention out of an abundance of caution, with doctors reportedly considering dehydration as a possible explanation for his condition.
Richie’s condition reportedly became noticeable to some concertgoers toward the end of his St. Louis performance. During his final song, his globally recognised hit All Night Long, the veteran entertainer asked for a chair and continued performing while seated.
Despite the apparent difficulty, Richie completed his performance, but his decision to seek medical attention afterwards has sparked concern among fans, particularly given another health-related incident during a concert earlier this year.
The latest hospitalisation comes roughly two months after Richie fell ill while performing in St. Paul, Minnesota, during his joint Sing A Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
The incident occurred in June at the Grand Casino Arena, where Richie was performing Three Times a Lady. The show was reportedly interrupted, with the singer unable to continue his performance.
His band subsequently left the stage, leaving thousands of fans waiting for an update. More than 40 minutes after the interruption, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to the stage to explain the situation to the audience.
”Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well, said saxophonist Dino Soldo, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
The announcement immediately triggered concern among concertgoers, many of whom later took to social media to discuss Richie’s condition and express fears about his wellbeing.
Footage from the Minnesota concert also drew attention, with videos showing the legendary singer sitting down several times while performing Dancing On The Ceiling, which was reportedly his second-to-last song of the night.
Richie was also reported to have told the audience that he was feeling ‘dizzy’ during the performance.
With the St. Louis hospitalisation coming so soon after the Minnesota incident, fans have once again raised questions about the health of the veteran performer, whose career has spanned several decades and produced some of the world’s most recognisable songs.
Richie, a former member of the Commodores who went on to establish a hugely successful solo career, remains one of the most influential figures in popular music, with hits including Hello, Say You, Say Me, Endless Love and All Night Long.
