Nigeria’s GDP Growth Accelerates to 4.43% in Q2 2026 as Economy Shows Stronger Momentum
Nigeria’s economy recorded a stronger performance in the second quarter of 2026, with real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growing by 4.43% year-on-year, according to the latest figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The growth represents an improvement from the 4.23% recorded in the second quarter of 2025, translating to a 0.20 percentage-point increase and signalling a modest strengthening in overall economic activity.
The latest performance highlights continued expansion across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, despite persistent challenges confronting businesses, households and investors.
According to the NBS, the agricultural sector recorded stronger growth during the quarter, providing a boost to the overall economic expansion. The services sector also continued to grow, reinforcing its contribution to Nigeria’s economic performance.
However, the improvement was not evenly distributed across all sectors. Industrial growth slowed significantly compared with the corresponding period in 2025, highlighting continuing pressure within parts of the productive economy.
The Q2 2026 figures therefore present a mixed picture of Nigeria’s economic landscape: while agriculture and services helped drive expansion, weaker industrial performance remains an area requiring attention.
Overall, the rise from 4.23% to 4.43% suggests that Nigeria’s economy maintained its growth trajectory during the quarter, with the latest figures offering a cautiously positive indication of economic momentum.
