NAFDAC Withdraws, Suspends, and Cancels Approval of Certain Products in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the withdrawal, suspension, and cancellation of approval for certain products in Nigeria, warning that they are no longer permitted for manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale, or use within the country.

In a public notice issued by the agency, NAFDAC explained the distinctions between the measures, noting that each carries specific implications for product regulation and consumer safety.

According to the statement, a product’s Certificate of Registration is considered withdrawn when the Market Authorization Holder formally discontinues its use and requests termination.

A product’s registration may be suspended if the conditions under which NAFDAC initially issued the license are no longer met, in which case the agency is mandated to make a regulatory determination.

Furthermore, the agency clarified that a cancellation occurs when NAFDAC revokes a product’s Certificate of Registration, effectively terminating its approval and legal status within Nigeria.

NAFDAC urged the general public, importers, distributors, and other stakeholders to take note of the announcement and comply fully with the directive in order to safeguard public health and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
