Nigeria’s violence affects multiple groups, not just Christians – US Rep. Jayapal
Congresswoman of the United States, Pramila Jayapal, has insisted that the devastating level of violence in Nigeria affects multiple groups and not just Christians.
Jayapal spoke on Thursday at the US Congress Public Hearing of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ CPC, which is investigating President Donald Trump’s redesignation of the West African country.
She was reacting to the threat of Trump invading Nigeria with military, if the continued killing of Christians does not end.
“The devastating level of violence in Nigeria are clear, but I appreciate that people have also recognized that it’s not just the prosecutions of Christians,” Jayapal said.
“It is the prosecution of multiple groups; we should be careful not to portray it as just prosecutions of Christians; that would be simplistic,” she said.
DAILY POST recalls that Trump had designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern a few weeks ago.
The 79-year-old Republican also further threatened military action against Nigeria.
He cited what he described as ongoing violence against Christians and the failure of the Nigerian government to protect religious minorities.
However, the Nigerian government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu had strongly denied persecution of any religious groups in the country.
