Nightmare Turns Deadly as Man Arrested in Oyo for Crushing Elder Brother with Rock After Claiming He Was Shot by Him in a Dream
A shocking and tragic incident has unfolded in the quiet community of Sepeteri in Oyo State, where a 43-year-old man allegedly killed his elder brother after claiming the victim attacked him in a dream.
The suspect, Lateef Suleiman, a resident of Alegunlode Compound in Sepeteri, reportedly woke up convinced that his 52-year-old brother, Mustapha Amidu, had shot him during the night while he was asleep.
Rather than dismiss the disturbing dream, Suleiman allegedly confronted the situation in a violent manner. Authorities say he approached his brother, who was sitting peacefully within the compound, picked up a heavy rock, and struck him on the head before fleeing the scene.
The incident was later reported to the police by a resident of the compound, Badmus Yunisa, prompting swift action from operatives of the Oyo State Police Command.
According to the police, the victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri for urgent medical attention. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Mustapha Amidu was pronounced dead by the attending doctor shortly after arrival.
Police officers from the Ago-Amodu Divisional Headquarters quickly visited both the scene of the attack and the hospital as part of preliminary investigative procedures aimed at documenting the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Following a search operation, Suleiman was later tracked down and arrested by law enforcement officers. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to carrying out the attack and has been cooperating with investigators.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a deeper and more comprehensive investigation.
Authorities say the command is committed to ensuring that the case is thoroughly examined and that justice is pursued in accordance with the law. The police also reassured the public of their determination to maintain peace and security while urging residents to report suspicious behaviour and resolve disputes through lawful means rather than violence.
