“No One Is Entitled to Distract Us with 2027” — Gov. Alex Otti Dismisses Early Election Politics, Reaffirms Total Focus on Fixing Abia
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has declared that his administration will not be distracted by premature political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that his singular focus remains the comprehensive rebuilding and transformation of Abia State.
Governor Otti made this assertion on Saturday during a worship service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District Headquarters, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, where he addressed the congregation on governance, faith and the future of the State.
The Governor assured the worshippers that his government would remain steadfast in doing what is right for the people, stressing that distractions, regardless of their source, would not derail his commitment to good governance. He added that the same divine intervention that secured his victory in 2023 would also take care of 2027.
“I assure you that this government will continue to do the right thing. No one, or group of people, whoever they are, none of them is entitled to distract us.
“So, when they make noise, like I said last week, we should not be bothered about noise.
“We should just remain focused and do what we have to do.
“So, sometimes, I worry if it is the 2027 election they are talking about, or maybe there’s another election coming up.
“But the same way God delivered 2023, that is the way he will deliver 2027 in Jesus’ name,” Gov. Otti declared.
Addressing concerns raised by the Church leadership over persistent flooding and drainage challenges around the Church premises and surrounding areas, Governor Otti gave an immediate directive to the Commissioner for Works to extend the ongoing drainage construction all the way down to the Umuikaa junction, assuring the community of government’s responsiveness to genuine needs.
The Governor also apologised to residents and road users for the dust and temporary discomfort being experienced around the Umuikaa junction–Owerrinta axis, explaining that such inconveniences are inevitable in the course of major infrastructure development.
“As you can see, we are at the final stages of dualising this road. It is a Federal road, but we got approval from the Federal government to reconstruct and dualise the road.
“And as we are doing this, we are also doing the one from Onuimo to Tower. And the idea is that any time you get into Abia State, you know you’ve gotten into Abia State,” Gov. Otti stated.
The State Chief Executive reaffirmed his commitment to serving Abia State with truth, integrity and honesty, while expressing gratitude to the Church for its prayers and unwavering support for his administration.
In separate goodwill messages, the Secretary of Alex Otti Vanguard Movement for Continuity 2027, Dr. Fineboy Ikechi Joseph; the First Elder of the Church who coordinated the laying of its foundation, Elder G.C. Ukaegbu; and a former Church Head Elder and Coordinator of retirees in Isialangwa South LGA, Elder E.C. Alozie, commended Governor Otti for his benevolence and consistent support to the Church.
They expressed strong confidence that Governor Otti’s reelection in 2027 is assured, noting that his visible achievements across the State have earned him widespread acceptance and goodwill. They however appealed to the Governor to urgently address the drainage challenges around the Church premises and the Umuikaa axis to prevent recurring flooding.
Earlier in his sermon titled “Living With Eternal Perspective,” Masterguide Chidera Mark drew the attention of the congregation to Isaiah chapter 40 verses 28 to 31, reminding believers that God neither changes nor grows weary. He urged Christians to place their hope firmly in Christ, assuring them of the promise of an eternal Kingdom.
The preacher also praised the leadership style of Governor Otti, noting that before now, Abia State was burdened with numerous concerns, but the emergence of the current administration has restored hope and optimism among the people. He emphasized that the reelection of the Governor would help sustain the positive momentum and good works presently being witnessed across the State.
The Church service, moderated by an Elder of the Church and General Manager of the Abia State Debt Management Office, Dr. Kingsley Nwaigburu, featured special prayers for Governor Otti and the Abia State Government, as well as special presentations by the Pastor-in-charge, Pastor Friday Izuoma.
Governor Otti was accompanied to the service by his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti. The event also attracted the presence of the member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, Hon. Chiwendu Rowland Denis; Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr.
