Police foil attempted theft of Bauchi emirate council vehicle

The Bauchi State Police Command has foiled an attempt to steal a Toyota Hilux vehicle owned by the Bauchi emirate council.
The incident was recorded on January 5, 2026, after Buhari Musa Umar, a staff member of the Bauchi Emirate Council, alerted a police patrol team at the Jos Road Roundabout about the theft. He explained that the vehicle had been parked at Inkiya Filling Station while the driver stopped briefly to purchase fuel.

According to the report, the driver was on an official duty to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages from the Emir. He said he stepped away momentarily to use the restroom, during which an unidentified person seized the opportunity and drove off with the vehicle.

Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, the Public  Relations Officer of the command, Nafiu Habib said officers swiftly acted on the distress call and chased the suspect. He noted that the stolen Hilux was later recovered in the Bayan Gari area, where the suspect was also apprehended.

SP Habib disclosed that the suspect admitted to the crime during questioning.

He added that investigations were still in progress and that the suspect would be formally arraigned in court once inquiries are concluded.
