President Bola Tinubu Appoints Abel Enitan as New Head of Civil Service of the Federation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the appointment taking effect from August 27, 2026.
Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, will take over from Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is set to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The appointment marks a new phase for the Federal Civil Service as the Tinubu administration seeks to deepen ongoing reforms and improve efficiency across government ministries, departments and agencies.
Enitan is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has spent seven years and seven months serving at the Permanent Secretary level, with postings to the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
With his extensive experience across key areas of government, Enitan is expected to bring significant institutional knowledge to the leadership of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her years of dedicated service and contributions to the development of the Civil Service. He also acknowledged the reforms and innovations recorded under her leadership.
The President charged Enitan to build on the gains of previous administrations by consolidating ongoing reforms, strengthening professionalism and improving efficiency within the public service.
He further tasked the incoming Head of Service with developing a more responsive and effective Civil Service capable of supporting the delivery of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu also emphasised the need for a public service anchored on professionalism, merit, accountability and innovation, while remaining responsive to the needs and expectations of Nigerians.
Enitan’s appointment is therefore expected to place renewed focus on strengthening the machinery of government and ensuring that the Federal Civil Service becomes more efficient, transparent and results-oriented in delivering services to citizens.
