Rivers Assembly Impeachment Drama: Analyst Uche Rochas Blasts Wike as Lawmakers Push for Peace, Dialogue and Political De-escalation
A political analyst, Arc Uche Rochas, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid fresh twists in the lingering political crisis at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Rochas’ reaction followed a surprising move by some members of the Assembly who openly called for the withdrawal of the impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, a development widely interpreted as a possible turning point in the protracted power tussle rocking the state.
In a viral video that has since gained wide circulation across social media platforms, the Minority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvanus Enyinna Nwankwo, alongside Hon. Peter Abbey, appealed to their colleagues to exercise restraint in handling the impeachment process.
The lawmakers urged members of the Assembly to place peace, dialogue and the collective interest of Rivers State above personal ambitions and political calculations. They cautioned that escalating tensions could further destabilise the state and undermine governance.
Both legislators emphasised that wisdom, truth and justice must guide all decisions taken by the House, expressing optimism that with reflection and maturity, all parties involved would ultimately embrace a peaceful and reconciliatory path.
The calls for calm came less than 24 hours after reports emerged that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had returned to Abuja following a visit to Rivers State, a development that further fuelled speculation around the impeachment saga.
Wike has been widely alleged to have influenced the impeachment move against Governor Fubara, an accusation that continues to stir intense debate within political circles in the state and beyond.
Reacting strongly to the unfolding events, Arc Uche Rochas declared that the former Rivers governor had suffered a major political setback. In a statement shared publicly, Rochas wrote, “The Supreme Leader of Rivers State, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has been defeated. He played himself into a tight corner and has now lost it all.
“He has become an Usu, neither among the flying creatures nor among those who walk. Shame on him, and good riddance to bad nonsense.”
The latest developments appear to signal a possible cooling of the political temperature in Rivers State, as key actors increasingly call for reconciliation, stability and an end to actions capable of deepening divisions.
As the situation continues to evolve, many observers believe the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the state moves towards lasting peace or slides back into polit
ical confrontation.
