Senate Disowns Arrest Warrant Against Mele Kyari, Rejects Oshiomhole’s Remarks on NNPC
The Senate on Thursday, June 11, 2026, moved to distance itself from a warrant of arrest issued against the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, by its Committee on Public Accounts, describing the action as not reflective of the upper chamber’s position.
The Senate also disowned comments attributed to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, following his alleged description of the national oil company as being made up of criminals and thieves during a committee session held on Wednesday.
Clarifying its stance, the Senate emphasized that the remarks and procedural actions linked to the committee do not represent the official position of the chamber, signaling an effort to de-escalate tensions arising from the hearing.
In a swift reaction, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited rejected the allegations implied by the controversy, insisting that it does not engage in any form of criminal activity or misconduct as suggested during the proceedings.
The developments have further intensified public attention on the ongoing scrutiny of the oil giant, as stakeholders await clearer resolutions from the legislative probe.
