Seyi Tinubu Breaks Silence, Denies Allegations Linking Him to VeryDarkMan–King Mitchy Feud, Warns Against Online Bullying and Politicisation of Philanthropy
Seyi Tinubu, son of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has firmly denied allegations connecting him to the ongoing online dispute between activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy, describing the claims against him as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to drag his name into a controversy he neither initiated nor participated in.
The controversy erupted after King Mitchy reportedly renovated a public school within six days, a project said to have received financial backing from Seyi Tinubu. The development later became entangled in a heated social media exchange when VeryDarkMan raised concerns about the handling of public donations he allegedly received since 2025.
As tensions escalated online, VeryDarkMan accused Seyi Tinubu of sponsoring Mitchy’s charity activities and went further to call on members of the public to hold both Seyi and Mitchy accountable should anything happen to him. The remarks, made in a video posted on his Instagram page, intensified the already charged digital confrontation and drew widespread reactions across social media platforms.
Responding in a series of posts shared via his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu distanced himself completely from the feud, clarifying that his only interaction with King Mitchy occurred in a public setting where he provided financial support for her non-governmental organisation as part of his broader youth empowerment efforts.
“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately drawn into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan (VDM) and King_Mitchy (‘Mitchy’).
“Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false,” he wrote.
He explained that he met Mitchy once, alongside other individuals, and offered financial assistance towards her NGO’s activities.
According to him, the support was consistent with his longstanding commitment to initiatives focused on youth development, education, and community impact.
Seyi Tinubu further disclosed that a follow-up meeting had been scheduled to assess the impact of the donation but did not take place due to ill health.
“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,” he stated.
Expressing concern over the direction of the online debate, he lamented that a disagreement he was not involved in was being weaponised to tarnish his image. He alleged that VeryDarkMan “appears to have been looking for a trigger” to attack him and used the situation as an opportunity.
“If my name generates attention, let us at least deal in facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth,” he said.
The President’s son also condemned what he described as online bullying and harassment, warning that such attacks, when escalated, could pose serious mental health risks.
“I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic. No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s wellbeing or safety,“ he wrote.
Reaffirming his dedication to philanthropy, Seyi Tinubu noted that for over a decade, through his foundation and personal donations, he has consistently supported initiatives spanning education, enterprise, healthcare, and youth empowerment across Nigeria. He stressed that acts of charity should not be politicised or turned into tools for online sensationalism.
“Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicised or weaponised. Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation,“ he said.
Calling for calm and de-escalation, he urged all parties and observers to prioritise truth, responsibility, and constructive engagement over inflammatory rhetoric.
“Noise will fade. Character and work endure. I remain committed to serving Nigerians, especially our youth, with integrity
and transparency,” he concluded.
