Super Falcons Get Hero’s Welcome in Abuja
Nigeria’s Super Falcons received a rousing welcome this afternoon at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja following their triumphant return from Morocco, where they secured their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
The Falcons clinched the championship over the weekend with a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against hosts Morocco in Rabat.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, proudly holding the trophy, was the first to disembark from the aircraft at approximately 2:45 pm, followed by her jubilant teammates and officials.
The team was received by a high-powered Federal Government delegation led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, alongside the Minister of Aviation
and Aerospace Development and that of Information and National Orientation as well as the Governors of Kwara and Imo States.
Also present was the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who led senior sports officials to welcome the champions amidst an atmosphere of celebration, highlighted by performances from a cultural troupe.
The Super Falcons will later be hosted at a presidential reception at the State House, where President Bola Tinubu is expected to honour the players and officials for their historic achievement.
