Trump cancels planned visit to freed hostages - Israeli official

US President Donald Trump will no longer visit the recently freed Israeli hostages at Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan as originally planned, an Israeli official told newsmen on Monday.

The decision was made due to time constraints, as Trump’s schedule has already been overrun following his historic address to the Knesset earlier in the day.

According to the source, the president’s speech, which ran longer than expected, pushed him well past his planned 1:00 p.m. departure time from Jerusalem.

Trump is expected to depart shortly for Egypt, where he will join a summit of world leaders focused on advancing his US-led Gaza peace initiative.

The visit to the hostages’ hospital rooms had been intended as a symbolic gesture of solidarity following their release earlier in the day under the ceasefire agreement brokered by Washington.
