United States President Donald Trump has said he is in talks with Iranian opposition leaders as he places United States military intervention on the table.

DAILY POST reports that there have been two weeks of anti-government protests in Iran.

The protest attracted global attention after the Iranian government under its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cut off the internet on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Reacting to the situation in Iran, Trump on board Air Force One late on Sunday said the Iranian leaders called for negotiation with the US.

“We’re looking at it very seriously. The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options. We’ll make a determination,” he told reporters on board Air Force One late on Sunday, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned Washington against “a miscalculation.”

“Let us be clear: in the case of an attack on Iran, the occupied territories (Israel) as well as all U.S. bases and ships will be our legitimate target.”

DAILY POST reports that Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the late Shah, may be a Trump-backed potential transitional leader.

Recall the protest began on December 28th in Tehran’s bazaars over rampant inflation and other economic challenges Iranians face.

Recently, Trump-led US invaded Venezuela, which led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
