Wife of the Mayor of Aba North, Mrs. Nina Iheke Unveils ‘Basket of Procreation’, Urges Umuola Egbeelu Women to Match Faith With Action
The Wife of the Executive Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Lady Nina Iheke, has unveiled the symbolic ‘Basket of Procreation’, known in Igbo as “Nkata Omumu,” charging women of Umuola Egbeelu Community in Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State to combine faith with action in their pursuit of growth, prosperity and progress.
Lady Iheke made the call on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during the annual August Meeting organised by the women of Umuola Egbeelu Community, Ogbor Hill, Aba, where she urged the women and other members of the community to look forward to positive outcomes whenever faith is backed by purposeful action.
While unveiling the Nkata Omumu, she explained that pregnancy should not be viewed solely from the physical perspective of childbearing, stressing that every individual, whether male or female, is carrying something that is waiting for the right time to be delivered.
According to her, such things could be ideas, concepts, innovations, dreams or visions capable of producing meaningful results when properly nurtured and brought to fruition. She noted that the process of conception, in its broader sense, concerns everyone and ultimately has the potential to birth good tidings that will positively impact families, communities and society at large.
The annual gathering also provided an opportunity for the women to showcase their contributions to the development of the community.
In her welcome address, the Women Leader, Mrs Chukwuanu Blessing, highlighted some of the achievements recorded by the women in previous years. These included the installation of iron burglary protection and a gate in front of the council hall, tiling of the hall floor and upgrading of the convenience facilities attached to the hall.
She, however, appealed for additional support to enable the women complete other projects and improve facilities at the community hall. Among the needs highlighted were making the Sumo water system functional, providing a generating set to power the water-pumping system and fans, acquiring additional fans and providing about 40 more chairs.
The event was further enlivened by a drama presentation centred on the importance of unity in building a stronger and more progressive community. The programme also featured a colourful match-past and cultural dance performances, adding cultural flavour to the annual gathering.
In a keynote presentation, the First Lady of Umuola Egbeelu Community, Ugoeze Franca Nwogu, highlighted the significant role women play in the family and community, describing women as delicate yet strong contributors to societal development.
She emphasised that women possess strength in their own unique way and, alongside men, work towards achieving common goals. She also identified peace, calmness, gentleness and cleanliness among qualities associated with women.
Health also featured prominently at the gathering, with the Medical Director of Umuola Egbeelu Health Centre, Mrs Chinonyerem Okoro, educating the women on the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles for longer and better lives.
She encouraged members of the community to eat healthy foods, exercise regularly and undergo routine medical check-ups to enable the early detection of illnesses and prevent health conditions from becoming more serious.
Lady Nina Iheke was accompanied at the event by the Councillor representing Osusu 1 Ward 3 in the Aba North Legislative Council, Hon. Stella Unadike.
