ABSU Suspends Economics Professor Over Social Media Posts
Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), has suspended Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, over concerns arising from social media posts attributed to him.
The university management announced the suspension in a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, by the institution’s Deputy Registrar and Public Relations Officer, Chijioke Nwogu.
According to the university, the decision followed concerns that some of the social media posts attributed to Professor Nwaeze were considered inimical to the interests of the institution and uncomplimentary to the Visitor of the University.
In response to the development, the university management has constituted an Investigative Panel to examine the matter and determine the circumstances surrounding the posts.
The panel is expected to consider the issues raised by the university management as part of its investigation, with the outcome expected to guide further action by the institution.
The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending the conclusion of the investigation by the panel.
The development has placed the university community on heightened attention as the institution awaits the findings of the investigative process.
The statement was signed by Chijioke Nwogu, Deputy Registrar/PRO, Abia State University, Uturu.
