Wike, Chinda Meet Fubara Behind Closed Doors as Rivers Political Reconciliation Push Intensifies
A major political engagement has taken place in Rivers State as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, APC governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda and their supporters met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of his political camp in Port Harcourt.
The high-profile meeting, held behind closed doors at the Governor’s residence, is believed to be part of ongoing efforts to consolidate political reconciliation and ease tensions among the major political stakeholders in the state.
Wike and Chinda reportedly arrived at Governor Fubara’s residence at about 4 p.m., accompanied by their supporters, for the closed-door discussions with the governor and his camp.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of years of intense political disagreements that had divided Rivers State’s political landscape, particularly the bitter dispute between Governor Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The political crisis, which attracted significant national attention, had seen major political actors and their supporters take opposing positions, creating deep divisions within the state’s political structure.
However, the latest meeting signals another significant step in the ongoing reconciliation process, bringing key figures from the different camps together at the same table.
The discussions reportedly lasted for about four hours before ending at approximately 8 p.m.
Despite the significance of the meeting and the political weight of those involved, neither Wike, Chinda nor Governor Fubara addressed journalists after the engagement.
Members of both camps also declined to disclose details of the discussions, leaving the outcome of the meeting largely undisclosed.
The unusual silence from the political heavyweights has further heightened interest in what transpired behind the closed doors, particularly as Rivers State continues to navigate efforts aimed at restoring political cohesion among its ma
jor stakeholders.
