…says Otti Administration Has Established a New Standard for Governance in Abia State
An Abia-born technocrat, Mr. Eni Uche, has declared that the political landscape in Abia State is undergoing a significant shift, insisting that the outcome of the 2027 general elections will be determined more by the performance of elected public office holders than by the political parties under which they contest.
Uche made the assertion in Abuja shortly after returning from an extensive assessment tour of Abia State, during which he inspected several ongoing developmental projects across different parts of the state.
The technocrat, who is the son of the late Justice A. K. Uche, a former First Republic legislator who represented the Ohafia–Bende Constituency in the then Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly, said his firsthand inspection of projects across the state revealed what he described as a remarkable transformation under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti.
According to him, the rehabilitation and construction of strategic roads, modernization of transport terminals, sweeping urban renewal programmes, improvements in healthcare infrastructure, sustained investments in public education, and the execution of other critical infrastructure projects have reshaped many communities across the state while restoring public confidence in governance.
He observed that the visible changes recorded across various sectors have strengthened citizens’ belief in the capacity of government to deliver meaningful development when public resources are properly managed and directed towards projects that impact the lives of the people.
Reflecting on his political involvement, Uche recalled that he supported Governor Alex Otti throughout his electioneering campaigns until his eventual victory at the polls. He also revealed that, before the current administration assumed office, he instituted a legal action aimed at preventing the immediate past government from accessing funds he believed could have been mismanaged before the transition.
Following his recent inspection of projects, he said he was convinced that the Otti administration has established a new standard for governance in Abia State, maintaining that future elections should increasingly be decided by measurable achievements and quality service delivery rather than party loyalty.
Beyond the executive arm of government, Uche also acknowledged the contributions of other elected representatives whom he said have demonstrated commitment to grassroots development.
He commended the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for executing various constituency projects across the district, including road construction, the building of classroom blocks, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights aimed at improving public infrastructure and enhancing community development.
He equally applauded the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, for what he described as impactful interventions in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and other constituency development programmes that have positively affected the lives of his constituents.
Uche further urged senators, members of the House of Representatives, members of state assemblies, local government officials, and other elected public office holders to adopt a performance-driven approach to governance, stressing that the electorate is becoming increasingly discerning and now places greater value on visible projects, accountability, and effective service delivery.
He noted that with rising public awareness and greater access to information, voters are paying closer attention to the records of those seeking elective offices, making it increasingly difficult for politicians to rely solely on party structures or political sentiments without demonstrating concrete achievements.
“The era when political parties alone determined electoral victory is gradually giving way to one where performance speaks louder. Leaders who deliver meaningful development will continue to earn the confidence and support of the people,” he said.
