2027 Realignment Deepens as Senator Ishaku Abbo Dumps ADC Over Leadership Crisis, Defects to Labour Party with Supporters

A fresh wave of political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections has emerged as former lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, Senator Ishaku Abbo, formally resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued via his Facebook page on Sunday, Abbo, who leads the SIA Movement, attributed his decision to the protracted leadership crisis rocking the party at both national and state levels, noting that conflicting judicial pronouncements have thrown the party into uncertainty and instability.

He pointed specifically to a Federal High Court judgment which voided the party’s state congresses, alongside a Supreme Court ruling that returned the leadership dispute to the Federal High Court for further determination, developments he said have left members disoriented and unsure of the party’s future direction.

In what appears to be a decisive political shift, the former senator announced that he has now aligned with the Labour Party, moving alongside his political structure and loyal supporters as preparations intensify for the next electoral cycle.

The statement read, “Following the leadership crises that is rocking the ADC at national and state level more especially with the Federal High Court judgment that voided our state congresses and with the judgment of the Supreme Court that returned the leadership crises case back to the Federal High Court for determination, leaving all of us high on uncertainty, I, Senator Ishaku Abbo, as the leader of the SIA Movement, have joined the Labour Party alongside my supporters so we can contest elections in 2027.

“I ask all the people who are not happy with my movement to forgive me as I have deep respect for all my friends in ADC.

“I am leaving ADC not out of hate for the party but to pursue our political aspirations because I carry the dreams of many people. Yes, I am a hope of a generation.

“I have forgiven those who deliberately hurt me while I was building the ADC with my sweat, influence and resources. I have forgiven you but I will always remember your names.”

Further signaling his next political moves, Abbo disclosed that he would, in due course, unveil his preferred presidential candidate, noting that the decision would be made “in close collaboration with my party, the LP.”

This development comes on the heels of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the ADC leadership tussle, a verdict that has continued to generate mixed reactions across political circles. Analysts and observers have expressed concerns over the party’s capacity to effectively organize and field candidates in the 2027 elections amid ongoing legal uncertainties.
