65th Independence Anniversary: Gov. Alex Otti Urges Nigerians to Remain Resilient Amid Economic Challenges, Highlights Abia’s Progress and Commitment to Security

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has called on Nigerians not to give up in the face of the prevailing economic challenges confronting the nation, even as he encouraged citizens to remain steadfast and optimistic about a better future.

Governor Otti made this passionate appeal while addressing the people during the 65th Independence Day Anniversary parade ceremony held at the Government House, Umuahia. The Governor, in his address, acknowledged the struggles of the country but emphasized the need for collective perseverance, determination, and hope.

“We may not have been where we want to be as a country, but the truth is that we are certainly not where we used to be.

“So, while we strive and work hard to get to that ultimate destination, none of us should lose hope as the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.

“Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. So, I challenge our people not to give up, because the best is yet to come,” Governor Otti stated.

He congratulated Nigerians on the 65th independence anniversary, appreciating the sacrifices of citizens and leaders who have contributed to the nation’s journey so far. According to him, their efforts remain invaluable and acknowledged.

Turning to the state of affairs in Abia, Governor Otti used the opportunity to highlight the progress recorded under his administration since assuming office 28 months ago. He stressed the importance of security as the foundation for growth and development, urging citizens to play an active role in sustaining peace and order.

“If you look around the State, you’ll definitely agree with us that our schools are wearing new looks, and more teachers have been deployed to the schools and our hospitals are being functionalised.

“If you see something, say something, call the Nigerian police, the DSS, the Army, just call the security agencies or call me. We don’t sleep. And the reason we don’t sleep is so that you can sleep.

“I can assure you that the service commanders that God blessed us with in the State are very hardworking and dedicated people,” he said.

The Governor expressed profound gratitude to Abians for their trust in his leadership, assuring them that his administration will continue to work tirelessly in their interest. He also lauded the gallant officers of the Nigerian Police for their outstanding performance during the anniversary parade and encouraged the public to keep supporting security agencies, noting that their morale and commitment to duty thrive on public support.

The colourful independence celebration featured a parade by officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force and was graced by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, members of the Abia State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, service commanders, the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Linus Nto Mbah, government functionaries and other prominent dignitaries.
