Abia State Assembly Defers Second Reading of Key Bills, Appoints New Deputy Clerk During Plenary

The Abia State House of Assembly has postponed the second reading of two significant bills initially scheduled for deliberation at today’s plenary.

The first bill, H.A.B 34: The Abia State Real Estate Regulatory Bill, 2025, sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Augustine Okezie, seeks to establish a regulatory framework for real estate activities in the state. 

Similarly, H.A.B 35: The Abia State Waterways Authority Bill, 2025, sponsored by Hon. Lewis Chinemerem Obianyi, aims to create an authority to oversee and manage waterways operations across Abia.

Both bills were deferred to a later legislative date, allowing members more time for review and further consultation.

In another major development during the sitting, the Speaker of the House announced the appointment of Mrs. Virginia Akasiobi as the new Deputy Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly. Her appointment is expected to strengthen the legislative bureaucracy and enhance administrative efficiency in the Assembly.

The plenary underscored the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to legislative reforms while reinforcing its administrative structure to support effective governance in Abia State.
