The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has tendered his resignation from office following an escalating controversy surrounding the authenticity of his academic qualifications.

The development was confirmed late Tuesday by the Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, marking yet another dramatic turn in a growing scandal that has sparked public outrage and raised questions about due diligence in ministerial appointments.

Investigations revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where Nnaji claimed to have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, has officially denied issuing him any certificate. According to the institution, records show that Nnaji was admitted in 1981 but failed to complete his academic programme and, therefore, was never awarded a degree by the university.

The controversy deepened when the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) also disowned the certificate of national service reportedly presented by the former minister, describing it as inauthentic.

These revelations have placed Nnaji at the centre of a major integrity crisis, forcing his abrupt resignation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet. His exit comes amid increasing public scrutiny over the educational and moral standards of public office holders in Nigeria.

Political observers note that the development could trigger a broader review of credentials of serving government officials as Nigerians continue to demand transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance.
