Aba South Labour Party Unveils 2027 Candidates, Rallies Support for Gov. Alex Otti, Sen. Abaribe, Rep. Ikwechegh and Others
The Labour Party in Aba South Local Government Area has formally launched its 2027 political campaign structure with the unveiling of candidates for key elective positions, signaling its readiness to consolidate the gains of the current administration and strengthen its dominance across Abia State.
The event, which attracted party stakeholders, Government appointees, Abia Arise Leadership, grassroots mobilizers, elected officials, and loyal supporters, served as a platform for the party to reaffirm its commitment to accountable governance, effective representation, and sustained development under the Labour Party banner.
Leading the lineup is the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, who was presented as the party’s candidate for a second term in office. The endorsement reflects growing confidence in his administration’s achievements, particularly in the areas of fiscal responsibility, infrastructure development, public sector reforms, and transparent governance.
Party leaders at the gathering emphasized that Governor Otti’s leadership has ushered in a new era of governance in Abia State, restoring public trust in government and laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth. They maintained that continuity is essential to preserving the momentum of ongoing reforms and completing transformational projects currently underway across the state.
For the Abia South Senatorial District, the party endorsed the return of Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe, whose political experience and legislative influence have made him one of the most recognizable voices from the South-East at the National Assembly.
Stakeholders described his track record of advocacy, democratic engagement, and constituency representation as invaluable assets that continue to serve the interests of the district and the nation.
The Labour Party also presented Rep. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh as its candidate for the Aba North and South Federal Constituency seat. Party officials highlighted his accessibility, grassroots connection, and impactful legislative interventions, noting that his continued representation would further advance the developmental aspirations of the constituency.
At the state legislative level, the party unveiled Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa for Aba South State Constituency and Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu for Aba Central State Constituency. Both lawmakers were praised for their dedication to public service, understanding of local challenges, and commitment to advancing policies that directly benefit their constituents.
Speaking during the event, the Aba South Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Egbebu Mmaju, expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances at the polls, describing the candidates as individuals who have earned the trust and confidence of the people through competence, integrity, and proven service.
According to him, the selection process prioritized merit, character, and demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people, ensuring that the party fields candidates capable of delivering quality leadership and responsive governance.
Also addressing party faithful, the Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, reaffirmed his confidence in the entire lineup, stressing that each candidate has distinguished himself through credible public service and unwavering commitment to the Labour Party’s ideals.
He noted that their records align with the transparent and results-oriented leadership style of Governor Alex Otti and expressed optimism that Aba South would remain a major pillar in advancing the vision of a new and prosperous Abia.
Responding on behalf of the candidates, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and candidate for Aba South State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, appreciated the Labour Party leadership and supporters in Aba South for their continued confidence and loyalty.
He assured party members and the people of Abia that the candidates would remain committed to the ideals of accountability, service, and purposeful leadership.
He pledged that they would continue to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering impactful representation and expanding the dividends of democracy across their various constituencies.
Among dignitaries who attended the unveiling ceremony were the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi; the former Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area and current Aba Area Coordinator of the Abia State Harmonized Task Force, Chief Uche Wogu; party executives, government appointees, community leaders, youth stakeholders, women leaders, and other prominent Labour Party faithful from across Aba South.
