ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT SET TO FLAG-OFF CONSTRUCTION OF STRATEGIC RURAL ROADS TO BOOST ECONOMIC GROWTH AND CONNECTIVITY
…as Otti Administration to Commence Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene and Ariam–Usaka Ring Roads Projects Next Week
The Abia State Government has announced plans to officially flag-off the construction of two major road projects, the 25-kilometre Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road and the 13.1-kilometre Ariam–Usaka Ring Road in Ikwuano Local Government Area on Friday next week.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to the Commissioner, these projects form part of Governor Otti’s continued effort to open up rural communities, stimulate economic activities, and ensure that all parts of the state are accessible and well-linked to major commercial hubs.
Prince Kanu further revealed that other key roads earmarked for flag-off in the coming weeks include the 9.35-kilometre Ihechiowa–Arochukwu Ring Road, the 4.9-kilometre Isieketa–Mba Itungwa–Mgbedeala Road, and the 3.72-kilometre Avo Umuogidi–Umuala Eziama Ntigha Road in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
He explained that the construction of these roads will serve as a critical catalyst for socio-economic transformation in the affected communities by improving trade, transportation, and access to essential services.
“These roads, when fully constructed, of course, will open up those corridors where they are located to further development and business activities in the state,” he said.
Prince Kanu emphasized that the Otti administration remains resolute in its mission to deliver quality infrastructure across Abia State, noting that the ongoing and upcoming road projects align with the government’s vision of ensuring equitable development across both urban and rural areas.
With these strategic interventions, the government aims not only to rehabilitate neglected infrastructure but also to lay the foundation for a more connected, economically vibrant, and inclu
sive Abia State.
