Bode George Laments Rising Unemployment, Hunger in Nigeria, Says His Children “Can’t Get Jobs Because Their Name Is Bode George”

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, has opened up about the worsening state of unemployment and hardship in Nigeria, revealing that even his own children are “struggling” to secure jobs in the country simply because of his name.

Speaking during a live interview on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, George expressed deep concern over what he described as an alarming wave of hunger, anger, and hopelessness among Nigerians, particularly the youth, who he said have been abandoned by the system.

“Today in Nigeria, everywhere there is hunger and anger,” he lamented, stressing that the plight of ordinary citizens should be the nation’s top priority.

The PDP stalwart painted a grim picture of the future for Nigerian youths, lamenting the growing unemployment crisis and lack of empowerment opportunities.

According to him, the situation has left both graduates and non-graduates “floating” without hope or purpose.

“Graduates are floating, no future, no hope; non-graduates are doing nothing,” George said.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently introduce targeted interventions aimed at empowering the youth through vocational training and financial support.

“I suggested that Mr. President should set up a special fund to ensure that those guys who didn’t train in any skill can be empowered. Then micro-credit for young graduates who want to do one business or the other,” he proposed.

Chief George also criticized the First Lady’s national library initiative, arguing that the project should not rely on public contributions from struggling citizens but rather from wealthy donors within the banking sector who, according to him, have the capacity to fund such ventures.

“Recently, the First Lady announced that she was going to build a national library and she needed contributions. That fund should have been by the President asking these people in the banks, those who donated ₦20 billion in two days, to give that money, which will be public money, and process it through good management,” he stated.

The PDP leader further disclosed that his own family has not been spared from the country’s harsh economic realities, lamenting that his children despite being qualified graduates have been denied employment opportunities due to the political weight of his surname.

“The younger generation in this country, including my own children who graduated a long time ago, have returned and tried to get a job, but they can’t get a job because their name is Bode George,” he said, expressing sadness over the state of merit and fairness in Nigeria’s job market.

George’s revelation underscores the depth of frustration among Nigerians amid worsening economic challenges, unemployment, and growing social inequality, issues that continue to dominate national discourse under the current administration.
