Abia Assembly Raises Alarm Over Obstruction by Generator Traders on Port Harcourt Road, Gives 14-Day Ultimatum for Road Clearance

The Abia State House of Assembly, during its plenary session today, witnessed a decisive move by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, who raised a Matter of Urgent Public Importance concerning the growing obstruction caused by traders operating along Port Harcourt Road in Aba.

Raising concern over the activities of Generator Traders in the area, the Speaker lamented that their indiscriminate display of goods on the road and adjoining streets has led to severe traffic congestion and hindered free movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

The House, after deliberations, expressed deep concern over the continuous defacement of the road by the traders, describing the situation as both unsafe and detrimental to the government’s ongoing urban renewal efforts in Aba.

In response, the Assembly issued a clear directive mandating the State Task Force to take action after a 14-day grace period. At the expiration of the notice, any goods or items found displayed along the road will be confiscated in line with the state’s environmental and urban order regulations.

The legislative resolution underscores the Assembly’s commitment to supporting Governor Alex Otti’s agenda of restoring Aba’s infrastructural glory and ensuring that the commercial city regains its rightful status as a hub of organized business and modern urban planning.
