ABIA STATE GOVT TO POSTHUMOUSLY HONOUR LATE NATIONALIST, SEN. DR. JAJA ANUCHA WACHUKU AT SYMBOLIC 108TH BIRTHDAY COMMEMORATION
The Abia State Government has announced a special state ceremony to posthumously honour one of Nigeria’s foremost nationalists, diplomats, and elder statesmen, the late Senator Dr. Jaja Anucha Wachuku (Ugo Ngwa), in a symbolic celebration marking what would have been his 108th birthday.
The historic event is designed as a solemn commemoration of a life that defined courage, patriotism, and service to Nigeria, particularly during the country’s formative years.
Senator Wachuku, who is widely remembered for his pioneering roles in Nigeria’s political and diplomatic history, remains one of Abia State’s most illustrious sons whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
In the official notice released by the state government, the invitation reads: “THE GOVERNMENT OF ABIA STATE CORDIALLY INVITES YOU TO THE 108 BIRTHDAY OF SEN. DR. JAJA ANUCHA WACHUKU (UGO NGWA) on THURSDAY 1ST JANUARY, 2026.” The ceremony is scheduled to take place at “VENUE: ANGLICAN GRAMMAR SCHOOL, NBAWSI,” and will commence by “TIME: 1PM.”
Although the revered statesman has passed on, the Abia State Government’s decision to commemorate his 108th birthday reflects the Alex Otti-led administration’s commitment to honouring icons who laid the foundations upon which present and future generations stand. It is also a celebration of Abia’s rich political heritage and the Ngwa nation’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s development.
The commemoration is expected to draw government officials, traditional rulers, academics, clergy, political leaders, youths, and citizens from across the state and beyond, all united in paying tribute to a man whose service transcended his lifetime.
The notice further states that “RSVP: PASTOR CALEB AJAGBA, PHD, CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE GOVERNOR,” with the provided contacts listed as “TEL: 08037045782, 08037045782.”
As Abia State prepares to usher in the New Year, the posthumous 108th birthday commemoration of Senator Dr. Jaja Anucha Wachuku stands as a powerful statement that greatness does not end in death, and that the memories of those who laboured for the nation remain immortal in the hearts of the people.
