Abia State Govt Records Massive Interest as Over 28,000 Apply in Second Phase of Teachers’ Recruitment, 4,000 New Teachers to Be Engaged
The Abia State Government has recorded an overwhelming response in the Second Phase of its Teachers’ Recruitment Exercise, as a total of 28,213 applications were received within the application window, underscoring the growing confidence of qualified Nigerians in the education reforms of the Governor Alex Otti-led administration.
Providing updates on the exercise, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed that the recruitment portal was opened on 6th November 2025 and officially closed on 29th November 2025, during which period thousands of applicants submitted their credentials for consideration.
Prince Kanu made this known on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, noting that the process has been carefully structured to ensure transparency, merit, and global best practices.
According to him, applicants who successfully completed their online submissions are currently at the verification stage, where documents and credentials are being thoroughly scrutinized to ensure compliance with set requirements. He explained that upon the conclusion of the verification exercise, qualified candidates will proceed to sit for Computer-Based Tests (CBT), after which successful applicants will be shortlisted for interviews.
Speaking on the broader objective of the recruitment drive, Prince Kanu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through strategic manpower development.
“It is important to recall that the Sate Government plans to recruit an additional 4,000 teachers from this exercise, to complement the 5,394 teachers already employed last year,” Prince Kanu stated.
He emphasized that the continuous recruitment of teachers forms part of the Otti administration’s holistic education reform agenda aimed at improving learning outcomes, reducing teacher-student ratios, and repositioning public schools in Abia State to meet modern standards.
