“Next Time, Bet Me“ — Edo State Gov. Monday Okpebholo Promises Asiwaju 3.5 Million Votes, Vows to Resign if Tinubu Loses 2027 Election
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has boldly declared that the state will deliver 3.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, insisting that he is not joking about the commitment.
Speaking during a TVC News programme, Journalists Handout Exclusive, and later in an in-depth interview with African Independent Television (AIT) on Friday, Governor Okpebholo left no room for doubt, tying Edo’s electoral support for Tinubu directly to the state’s development achievements.
“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes,” he stated emphatically.
Highlighting the tangible impact of Tinubu’s policies and projects across Edo State, the governor said the progress being witnessed on the ground would naturally translate into overwhelming support at the polls.
“The various projects across the state are the things that will speak for Tinubu and he will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor,” Okpebholo asserted, underscoring his personal confidence in the outcome.
Governor Okpebholo further elaborated on his approach to politics, contrasting it with the violent and coercive tactics often associated with elections.
“There’s no election here for him. I’m a politician, who under-studied Chief Aneni. My style of politics is not thuggery but grassroots,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to community-driven political engagement.
With this bold pronouncement, Edo State is positioning itself as a key stronghold for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling that voter support may increasingly align with visible governance and development milestones rather than mere rhetoric.
