International Women’s Day 2026: ASTOPU Aba Zone Chairman, Victor Azubuike Calls for Stronger Protection, Empowerment of Women
The Chairman of the Abia State Tricycles Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, Hon. Victor Azubuike, has called for stronger commitment toward the protection, empowerment, and advancement of women and girls in society.
Azubuike made the call in a statement to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, aligning with the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
In the statement, the ASTOPU Aba Zone chairman described women as the backbone of families and communities, noting that their resilience, sacrifices, and contributions remain critical to societal growth and development.
He said the annual celebration serves not only as a moment of recognition for the achievements of women but also as a reminder of the need for society to continue advocating for gender equality, protection of rights, and greater opportunities for women and girls.
Azubuike emphasized that women across homes, markets, workplaces, and communities continue to demonstrate exceptional leadership and strength, adding that empowering them remains a vital investment in the future of society.
He further highlighted ongoing initiatives in Abia State aimed at supporting women, particularly the programmes championed by the wife of the Abia State Governor, Priscilla Chidinma Otti, which he said have continued to uplift and empower women across the state.
According to him, the humanitarian engagements and advocacy of the governor’s wife have created meaningful opportunities for vulnerable women and young girls, enabling them to contribute more effectively to community development.
The ASTOPU chairman noted that the essence of the 2026 theme lies in translating advocacy into real action through policies and programmes that promote justice, protect women from discrimination, and expand economic opportunities.
Azubuike also acknowledged the daily struggles and determination of women in Aba and other parts of Abia State, including market women, mothers, and young girls striving for education despite various challenges.
He said their resilience continues to inspire leaders and stakeholders to push for a society where every woman and girl can pursue her aspirations without fear or limitation.
The ASTOPU Aba Zone chairman reaffirmed the union’s support for initiatives that promote gender equality and protect the rights and dignity of women.
He therefore called on community leaders, institutions, and citizens across the state to work collectively toward building a society where the rights of women are respected, justice is guaranteed, and deliberate action is taken to ensure opportunities for every woman and girl.
Azubuike concluded by congratulating women across Abia State and beyond on the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration, while urging continued support for programmes that promote women’s empowerment and development.
