ASTOPU Chairman Umuahia Zone, Chinweotito Appolos Celebrates Women’s Day, Hails Rights, Justice, Action for Women and Girls
In a passionate address on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, the Chairman of the Abia State Tricycles Operators Union (ASTOPU), Umuahia Zone, Hon. Chinweotito Godson Appolos, has called for decisive action to uphold the rights, dignity, and empowerment of women and girls. The 2026 celebration centers on the global theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
Hon. Appolos described the day as “a powerful reminder that the struggle for equality, justice, dignity, and opportunity for women and girls is far from over,” emphasizing the critical role women play in shaping families, communities, and the nation.
He highlighted the impactful initiatives of Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, Wife of the Governor of Abia State, which he said are transforming the lives of women and girls across the state. Through her programmes, including empowerment drives, social interventions, and advocacy for vulnerable groups, Mrs. Otti has created avenues for women to access education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
“Her programmes amplify the voices of women, promote their welfare, and create opportunities that enable them to thrive socially and economically,” Hon. Appolos stated.
The ASTOPU Chairman also underscored the contributions of women within the transport sector, describing them as breadwinners, entrepreneurs, and partners in economic development. He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, protection, and inclusion for women within their operational environment.
Hon. Appolos further urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, private organizations, and individuals to take concrete action in defending women’s rights, confronting injustices, and creating systems that empower women rather than marginalize them.
He concluded by asserting that the prosperity of any society is directly linked to the empowerment of women, noting that when women rise, families flourish, communities grow stronger, and nations experience transformational progress.
The Chairman’s address resonated as a call to action, encouraging collective efforts to build a society where every girl has access to education, every woman has equal opportunity, and every voice is heard.
“Happy International Women’s Day 2026. Long live the women of Abia State. Long live Nigeria,” Hon. Appolos declared.
