COMPASSION IN ACTION: ABA NORTH LOCAL GOVT PARTNERS GIFT HEALTH PLUS INC. AND RACHEL NWANJOKU FOUNDATION TO DELIVER LIFE-CHANGING FREE EYE CARE & HEALTH SCREENING SERVICES TO RESIDENTS

In a remarkable display of humanitarian service and community impact, Aba North Local Government Area has partnered with Gift Health Plus Inc. and the Rachel Nwanjoku Foundation to successfully carry out a large-scale medical outreach, providing “Free Eye Care & Health Screening Services” to residents, staff workers, civil servants, and indigenes of Aba North Local Government Area. This humanitarian initiative is aimed at improving access to basic healthcare.
The programme is designed to reach underserved and vulnerable populations, delivering essential health services with compassion and dignity.
The impactful event, held at the Aba North Local Government Council Headquarters in Aba, witnessed a massive turnout of beneficiaries who trooped in to access the free medical services. The outreach attracted a diverse crowd, including officers of the Civil Defence Corps and personnel of the Rapid Response Squad of the Nigerian Police, all of whom benefited from the programme.
Representing the Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Mrs. Tina Chioma Onyenwe, expressed profound appreciation for the initiative. She noted that the intervention has significantly eased the burden on staff and residents who would otherwise struggle to afford quality eye care services.
According to her, the programme stands as a timely relief and a testament to the power of collaboration between the Local Government and non-governmental organizations in advancing public health.
Speaking to journalists during the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Gift Health Plus Incorporated, Dr. Chamberlain Ugochukwu Nwanne, highlighted the scale and intent of the outreach.
“Today we’re conducting an eye care outreach providing thousands of readers, thousands of prescription glasses not just to staff at the local government, but the population here.
“You can tell that there’s been a very enthusiastic response. What we’re trying to do is to make sure that some of the resources our donors entrust us with are in the hands and faces of the people that actually need it.
“I have to be very thankful not just to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, but also to the Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, for giving us the enabling environment, space, and support we need to make this a reality, so that his constituents will benefit from what we’re doing today,” he stated.
Also lending her voice, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rachel Nwanjoku Foundation, Mrs. Rachel Nwanjoku, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to humanitarian service. She explained that her team remains dedicated to offering free medical care, particularly in the area of eye care and general health services, to underserved populations and individuals in dire need of support.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event shared heartfelt testimonies of the impact of the outreach.
Mrs. Ejike Eke Francis expressed satisfaction with the programme, noting that it was a timely intervention. He explained that he presented his eye or sight challenges and was promptly attended to, adding that he was thoroughly examined and provided with drugs, eye drops, and glasses to aid his vision.
Similarly, Mrs. Oluchi Prince stated that she was informed about the presence of the foundation at the council headquarters, where individuals with sight and eye-related issues were being attended to. She described the experience as commendable and beneficial.
Other beneficiaries, particularly elderly women and staff workers, also expressed their joy and appreciation for the initiative, commending Dr. Chamberlain Ugochukwu Nwanne and Mrs. Rachel Nwanjoku for their selfless service and dedication to improving the health and well-being of the people.
Gift Health Plus Incorporated is a US-based charity organization with operations in Nigeria. The NGO is committed to providing healthcare and life-enhancing services to vulnerable populations with compassion and dignity.
The outreach recorded significant impact as hundreds of prescription eyeglasses, as well as eye drugs, were provided by a team of GHP optometrists and nurses, further underscoring the scale and professionalism of the exercise. The initiative not only restored sight to many but also reinforced hope, dignity, and access to essential healthcare for the people of Aba North.
