Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris Orders Creation of Christian Affairs Department to Promote Equity and Fairness
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to establish a Department of Christian Affairs, a move aimed at strengthening inclusion, representation and religious harmony in the state.
The governor ordered that the new department should be headed by a Christian director, stressing that the decision was in line with his administration’s commitment to equity and fairness among all residents of Kebbi State.
Governor Idris gave the directive when members of the Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), paid him a thank-you visit.
Addressing the delegation, the governor said both political and religious leaders had been entrusted with important responsibilities and must continue to work towards addressing the challenges confronting the people.
He maintained that his administration was committed to ensuring fairness and equal representation, irrespective of religious differences.
According to the governor, there was no reason for the Christian community to be without proper representation in the Ministry of Religious Affairs. He noted that some states had gone even further by establishing separate ministries to cater for Christian affairs.
The creation of the department is therefore expected to provide the Christian community in Kebbi State with a stronger voice and a direct channel of engagement with the government on religious matters.
Governor Idris also expressed appreciation to CAN for its continued prayers for lasting peace and stability in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.
He further thanked members of the association for their support and goodwill towards his political future as he prepares for the 2027 re-election bid.
The governor’s directive is being seen as a significant step towards promoting religious inclusiveness, peaceful coexistence and a stronger sense of belonging among Christians and Muslims in Kebbi State.
