2027 Politics: Rochas Okorocha, Hope Uzodimma Reportedly Reconcile As Oshiomhole Brokers Peace
Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, and his successor, Governor Hope Uzodimma, have reportedly taken a significant step towards ending their prolonged political rivalry following a fresh encounter that has sparked speculation about a possible reconciliation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A video currently circulating on social media shows the two prominent political figures exchanging pleasantries and shaking hands in the presence of former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, who appeared to have played a mediating role in bringing them together.
The encounter has generated considerable political interest, particularly against the backdrop of the longstanding disagreements between the two former allies, whose relationship has been characterised by intense political confrontations and disagreements over the control and direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State.
During the meeting, Oshiomhole reportedly announced that the two politicians had reconciled, raising hopes that their years of political hostilities could finally be coming to an end.
The development comes at a particularly sensitive time for the Imo APC, following renewed tensions between Okorocha and Uzodimma over a recent court judgment concerning the party’s senatorial ticket for Imo West Senatorial District.
The judgment reportedly favoured Okorocha, triggering strong reactions from Uzodimma’s political camp and further deepening the disagreement between the two political heavyweights.
Reacting to the court decision, Governor Uzodimma reportedly dismissed Okorocha’s legal victory as temporary, accusing the former governor of chasing shadows while making it clear that he intended to challenge the ruling at the appellate court.
Several aides and representatives of the incumbent governor also expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment, questioning its outcome and rejecting the position reached by the court.
However, Okorocha responded by urging Uzodimma and his supporters to respect the judiciary and refrain from making statements capable of undermining public confidence in the courts. He cautioned against attacks on judicial officers and the continued criticism of court decisions.
The former governor also maintained his criticisms of Uzodimma’s political leadership, revisiting allegations surrounding issues of forgery and other controversies that have contributed to their strained relationship.
Against this background, the latest meeting involving Oshiomhole has attracted attention across the political landscape, with observers interpreting the handshake and reported declaration of reconciliation as a possible breakthrough in efforts to restore political harmony within the Imo APC.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, a potential understanding between the two politicians could carry significant implications for the political calculations, alliances and power dynamics within Imo State.
Nevertheless, despite the optimism generated by the encounter, neither Okorocha nor Uzodimma has officially issued a statement confirming that all outstanding disagreements have been resolved.
For now, the meeting has raised hopes of a new chapter in their political relationship, although whether the apparent reconciliation will translate into lasting political cooperation remains to be seen.
