Aba North Inaugurates 11-Member Joint Agricultural Investment Committee, Sets Agenda for Food Security and Economic Growth
The Aba North Local Government Council has formally inaugurated a new 11-member executive team for the Joint Agricultural Investment Committee (JAIP), a strategic initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, enhancing food security, and expanding economic opportunities through public–private sector collaboration.
The inauguration ceremony took place today, December 10, 2025, at the council headquarters in Eziama-Aba, drawing the presence of senior government officials.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Christian Chijioke Ogbuisi, who presided over the inauguration, charged the newly constituted committee to approach their mandate with transparency, accountability, and a strong sense of duty. He urged them to make Aba North a leading model in agricultural transformation across Abia State.
The committee, comprised of key personnel across strategic government departments, includes the Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, the Head of Service (HoS), the Council Treasurer, the Head of the Department of Works, the Head of the Department of Agriculture, and the Joint Agricultural Intervention Project Manager for Aba North, among other appointed members.
JAIP’s mandate encompasses mobilizing agricultural investors, supporting mechanized farming, improving market linkages for farmers, and fostering sustainable food systems that will help reduce poverty and stimulate local economic growth.
With its inauguration, the committee is expected to immediately begin consultations, stakeholder mapping, and policy alignment aimed at developing a robust agricultural investment framework for Aba North. The move signals a renewed commitment by the council to diversify the local economy by leveraging agriculture as a key driver of development.
It is believed that a successful implementation of JAIP could significantly boost agribusiness in Aba North, create employment opportunities for youths, strengthen value chains, and improve food availability for residents of Abia State and beyond.
Also present at the inauguration were the Supervisory Councillor for Works, Hon. Okeoma Nwogbe, JP; Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Hon. Princewill Onyeulo; and the Head of Personnel Management (HPM), Aba North Local Government Council, showing strong institutional support for the
initiative.
